When Bad Gets Worse.............Just Laugh
Life has a way of just making you laugh. A profound statement I know! But there really does come a point in your life when you realize that all you can do is take life as it comes and laugh a bit. I recently moved to Chicago. Of course, when I first got here, I was so excited! Everything was so new and fresh. Life was just good. Nothing could go wrong. My first month here was wonderful in many ways............................
Then the second month hit! And what a month it was! Actually, the next two months will forever live in my memory. One of those, "when a bad day goes worse" memories. By the end of the "worse" all I could do was laugh! Let me tell you about it.
It all started the weekend my family came to visit! It was a nice visit. Literally minutes after they left, circumstances arose that I would need to find a place to live for an extended period of time. Ok.............I could do that. That extended period of time turned into 3 weeks. Now, let me be honest. I am a routine person! Very routine. And I must have a certain alloted time to sleep! And I must exercise. And I have a certain diet. ETC! Well, wouldn't you know that I just couldn't quite get those things during my 3 week stay! But I did the best I could. Then, one week, I was late to my voice lesson DT Chicago because of traffic. We rushed through warmups and into a 30 minute lesson. I was so flustered by the time I left. And by the time I got out of Chicago, traffic was terrible! The next week, I missed my lesson due to an accident on the interstate. By the time I got around the accident, I had missed my lesson. I had spent two hours in traffic and gotten nowhere. So I turned around and went back home! Then, wouldn't you know.........that very night........I pulled out of my work parking lot, and boom, smacked right into the back of a car! Lucky for everyone, there was no damage. But I was so sore that night! I went totally bolistic on the phone! Who was I supposed to call......what was I supposed to do! I was done with Chicago! I couldn't live here anymore. Needless to say, I settled down.........and am still living in Chicago! But of course, that little accident made me late to my doctor's appointment! I hate being late!
The very next week my car was egged on Halloween night! I was so mad! Had there been someone standing there, I probably would have hit them quite hard. I mean, how rude can you be! And yes, the next week was eventful as well! I cut my thumb on the paper cutter. Stupid, Stupid! Three stitches worth! I ended up watching the guy put all three stitches in. It was either that or Spanish Soaps! Neither interest me!
To top it off, we were short staffed in the office for several days. I felt like a chicken running around with my head cut off at times! No doubt self-induced! By the time of the thumb incident all I could do was laugh! I mean, I literally stood there looking at my thumb........and all I could do was laugh. Most people don't laugh when they see all the way down to bone!
Now, some of these things may not sound really bad. But believe you me, when you are new to a place, trying to adjust, a perfectionist, not getting sleep, working a lot, etc., etc., etc......this many irritations in one blow, week by week, will just drive you nutty! And I'm afraid they did........until I reached the point of ultimate insanity and just laughed myself back into sanity!
I just love life! Like I said, it just has a way of making you laugh! As I was sitting at my desk one day working, the thought literally hit me, "I just love my life. I mean, how many people do you know have such an exciting life. Mine never has a dull moment! It is never, never boring. It is either really exciting or really mind-blowing! But always something!" Wonderful isn't it! What a roller coaster. And of course, roller coasters are supposed to be fun, right?!
